Working at Height at TM Pole (WAH)

The Working at Height at TM Pole (WAH) course is designed to provide personnel with the necessary knowledge and practical skills to safely perform work activities on telecommunication (TM) poles and related structures. This course focuses on hazard identification, fall prevention, safe climbing techniques, and proper use of fall protection equipment when working at height.

Participants will learn about legal requirements under applicable Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) regulations, risk assessment procedures, permit-to-work systems, and emergency response planning. The course emphasizes correct inspection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), ladder safety, pole integrity assessment, and rescue procedures to minimize the risk of falls and serious injuries.

Course Objective

The objective of this course is to ensure participants are competent to carry out work safely at height on TM poles in accordance with safety standards and regulatory requirements. By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand legal requirements and safety standards related to working at height.

  • Identify hazards associated with working on TM poles and elevated structures.

  • Conduct risk assessments prior to commencing work at height.

  • Inspect and correctly use fall protection equipment, including full-body harnesses and lifelines.

  • Apply safe climbing techniques and secure positioning methods on poles.

  • Implement control measures to prevent falls and dropped objects.

  • Follow permit-to-work and site safety procedures.

  • Perform emergency response actions, including basic rescue procedures for fall incidents.
